Why it's here:

- Rated at about 36dB, quiet enough for night use
- Automatic humidity sensor and display
- Light for a compressor at about 10kg
- Cheaper to run than the 20L machines

Keep in mind:

- The 2L tank needs emptying often in a damp room

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09BNZWPZY)

### 2. EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3

8.9 out of 10

A simple rotary-dial desiccant unit that owners buy for cold, damp rooms and small flats. Light, easy to use and rated to work from 1°C to 35°C.

Why it's here:

- Desiccant design keeps working in unheated rooms
- Light at about 6kg with a carry handle
- Economy and Turbo switch is simple to understand
- Three-year warranty on the main listing

Keep in mind:

- Draws 300W to 580W, so running costs are higher than a compressor
- Some owners find the auto setting less precise than a digital humidistat
- The filter needs regular cleaning

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07N2VDCRJ)

### 3. Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Laundry Mode

8.8 out of 10 · Best Premium

The laundry workhorse. A 20L compressor with a one-click laundry mode and a 5.5L tank that owners say copes with a clothes airer in a closed room.

Why it's here:

- One-click laundry mode raises fan speed for drying washing
- Large 5.5L tank means fewer trips to the sink
- Hose connection for continuous drainage
- Carbon filters and a 24-hour timer

Keep in mind:

- Around 13kg, which is a lot to carry upstairs
- Fan noise at the top speed is noticeable in a small room
- Draws about 440W, so it costs around 11p an hour to run

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C62J7S74)

### 4. NETTA 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier 200W

8.7 out of 10 · Value for Money

The budget compressor that owners keep recommending. A plain 12L machine with a digital panel that does a bedroom, a bathroom or a small flat for a low outlay.

Why it's here:

- One of the cheapest compressors here
- About 200W, roughly 5p an hour to run

- Auto restart after a power cut

Keep in mind:

- The 2L tank needs emptying daily in a damp room
- Rated for rooms up to about 25 square metres only

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07F6DHHB1)

### 5. Honeywell TPFIT 12L Dehumidifier

8.6 out of 10 · Best Budget

A 12L compressor with a digital display and a clothes-drying mode. Owners report it dries a load of washing in about six hours.

Why it's here:

- Clothes-drying mode and 24-hour timer

- Draws about 210W, roughly 5p an hour to run
- Two-year warranty

Keep in mind:

- The tank has no handle
- Noise figures vary between listings

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CHS9N5BX)

### 6. Dreo Smart Dehumidifier 512S

8.4 out of 10

A newer 20L compressor for larger homes. Quiet on paper, lighter than most of its size, with an auto mode that holds a set humidity.

Why it's here:

- Rated at 38dB on Dreo's UK page, low for a 20L machine
- Lighter than rivals at about 12.4kg
- Intelligent auto mode and a 24-hour timer
- Drains by tank or hose

Keep in mind:

- The tank is only about 3.4L, so it needs emptying often without the hose
- Draws about 355W at full output
- Newer model, so the long-term record is shorter than the older brands

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FP5J147H)

### 7. Meaco MeacoDry Arete One 20L

8.3 out of 10

The 20L pick for a whole house. A compressor dehumidifier and HEPA air purifier in one, quiet for its size and drawing little power for the output.

- Integrated H13 HEPA filter cleans the air as it dries
- Draws about 250W, low for a 20L compressor

Keep in mind:

- Heavy at about 15kg

- Costs well above the budget compressors

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DT9W9H68)

### 8. Meaco DD8L Junior

8.0 out of 10

Why it's here:

- Desiccant drying stays effective in cold rooms
- Light at about 6.4kg and easy to move
- Humidistat with 40, 50 and 60 per cent settings plus a laundry mode
- Hose connection for continuous drainage (hose not included)

Keep in mind:

- Small 2L tank
- Draws 330W or more, up to about 650W in boost
- Gives off warmth, which is a bonus in winter and a nuisance in summer

[Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0060MY2KQ)

### 9. Devola 12L Platinum Compressor Dehumidifier & Air Purifier DVH12L

7.8 out of 10

Why it's here:

- HEPA filter and air purifying mode included
- Sleep mode drops to about 37dB
- Castor wheels and a 24-hour timer
- Light for a compressor at about 10kg

Keep in mind:

- Too small for a whole house or heavy laundry loads

- Wheels and a folding handle
- Self-cleaning mode and a carbon filter

Keep in mind:

## Before you buy

### Which dehumidifier should I buy?

For most heated UK homes, a compressor model is the right choice: it is cheaper to run and quicker at room temperature. Pick 12L for a bedroom or small flat, and 20L for a whole house or regular laundry drying. If the room is cold, such as a garage, conservatory or boat, choose a desiccant model instead.

### Is a compressor or desiccant dehumidifier better?

A compressor chills the air so moisture condenses, and it is efficient in a warm room. A desiccant unit uses an absorbent rotor and heats it to release water, so it keeps working in cold air, and it is stronger at 15°C or below. Desiccant units draw more power, often 300W to 600W, and give off a little warmth. Compressor models draw roughly 150W to 450W.

### Do dehumidifiers work in cold temperatures?

Compressor units slow down as the room cools, and most are rated from about 5°C because the coil can ice up. Many have a defrost cycle that pauses the work, so extraction falls in a cold garage. Desiccant models are not affected in the same way, and the EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3 is rated down to about 1°C.

### How much electricity does a dehumidifier use?

A 12L compressor draws about 200W, which at around 26p per kWh is roughly 5p an hour. A 20L compressor draws about 330W to 440W, which is roughly 9p to 11p an hour, and a desiccant unit at 330W to 580W costs 9p to 15p an hour. A humidistat or auto shut-off stops it running once the target is reached, which cuts the bill. Your own tariff will move these figures.

### What size dehumidifier do I need for my room?

The litres per day on the box are measured in warm, humid lab conditions, such as 30°C and 80 per cent humidity. In a typical UK room at 20°C and 60 per cent, expect roughly half to two thirds of that figure. As a guide, 12L suits a bedroom or one to two bedroom flat, and 20L suits a three or four bedroom house. A larger tank or a drain hose saves emptying it.

### Which dehumidifier is best for drying clothes?

Choose a 20L compressor with a laundry mode, which raises the fan speed to pull moisture off wet washing. Close the door, put the airer in the same room and set the humidity target low. A larger 5L tank or a hose means it can run unattended. Aim for 40 to 60 per cent humidity, which a hygrometer will show, and stop once clothes are dry. Place the unit away from walls, keep the filter clean and empty the tank each day.

## How we ranked these ten

Every score here comes from our ranking model, not from anyone's opinion. It weighs owner ratings by how many there are, how recent they are and how reliable they look, then factors in value. We compared 27 models for this guide before settling on these ten.

Brands can't pay to be included or to move up. We last checked these picks in October 2026.
