Cordless sticks are the easiest to grab for a quick clean and the best on stairs, but they run on a battery. Robots clean by themselves every day and still need a proper vacuum for stairs and edges. Uprights suit big carpeted homes and never run out of charge. Cylinders are the most flexible corded option, good on hard floors and under furniture. Many homes end up with a cordless stick plus a robot. ### How long do cordless vacuum batteries last? Most run between 20 and 60 minutes on their lowest power setting and far less on maximum, so check the runtime at the power you'll actually use. Batteries also fade with age. A model with a removable, replaceable battery lasts longer and lets you swap in a second battery for big cleans. ### Are robot vacuums worth it? For keeping floors clear of crumbs, dust and pet hair every day, yes. They can't do stairs, can get stuck on cables and deep rugs, and miss tight corners, so they work alongside a stick or corded vacuum rather than replacing one. Mapping and a self-emptying dock make the biggest difference to how often you have to step in. ### Bagged or bagless? Bagless saves on buying bags, but emptying the bin can release dust.
