The UK's most familiar electric under-blanket: one controller, simple heat settings and a low price. It suits a single sleeper or a couple happy with the same heat.

A budget double at 135 x 120cm with three heat settings and overheat protection. The polyester fabric is machine washable.
A low-cost double with three heat settings and a detachable controller. It is a plain way to warm a bed on a small budget.

A Silentnight with a microfleece top and piped edge, sold mainly as a dual-control model. Each side of the bed gets its own controller, and the range runs from single to super king.

A fully fitted king at 152 x 203cm with a 40cm elasticated skirt and dual control. It is a long-running seller for couples who want each side set separately.

A single underblanket (70 x 150cm) from a familiar appliance brand, with three heat settings and a machine-washable cover.

A fully fitted double mattress cover with an elasticated skirt and dual control. Each side of the bed has its own controller and three heat settings.

A plain, low-cost strap-down blanket from a bedding specialist. Three settings and one controller do the job of taking the chill off the sheets.

A budget double with three settings, a detachable controller and overheat protection. It does the basics at about 2p an hour on full power.

A fitted double in white diamond-quilted fabric with dual controls and a timer. It offers nine heat settings, with the feet and body areas set separately.
It depends on the bed. A basic strap-down blanket such as the Silentnight Comfort Control or Daewoo underblankets suits one sleeper on a budget. Couples are better served by a dual-control model such as the Silentnight Hotel Collection or Homefront Fitted Fleece King Dual Control. We compared 26 under-blankets and ranked these ten from owner ratings, so the order reflects what buyers report.
If you share a bed with someone who runs warmer or colder than you, yes. Dual-control blankets have two controllers, one per side, and each can be set or switched off separately. A single-control blanket suits one sleeper, or a couple who like the same heat. Single sizes never need two controllers.
Match the blanket to the mattress, not the label, because sizes vary by brand. A UK king mattress is about 150 x 200cm, and the Homefront king is 152 x 203cm. Some strap-down doubles are only 120 x 135cm, so they warm the middle and leave edges and feet cold. A fitted skirt grips the mattress; straps tie under it. Check depth too, as straps on the Slumberdown Sleepy Nights suit mattresses up to about 30cm.
Check the maker's advice. Silentnight says to switch the blanket off before you fall asleep, and that pre-heating the bed is enough. Blankets with a timer, such as the GlamHaus, can shut themselves off. Never fold or bunch a blanket while it is on, and do not use it on an adjustable bed. Fit a 30mA RCD where you can. Check for fraying or scorch marks, and replace any blanket that is over ten years old.
Very little against heating a room. A 60W blanket costs about 2p an hour at 34p per kWh, so about 16p for 8 hours on high. Daewoo quotes about 2p an hour for its double on full power. Pre-heating on a low setting for an hour costs about 1p, and most of the cost falls once the bed is warm and you turn it down.
Yes, if the maker says so. Unplug it, detach the controller and cable, and use a cool, gentle cycle: Cozytek allows 40 degrees. Daewoo says to line dry and not to tumble dry or iron its blankets. Dry the blanket fully before you plug it back in. Rolling it loosely for storage protects the wires.
Every score here comes from our ranking model, not from anyone's opinion. It weighs owner ratings by how many there are, how recent they are and how reliable they look, then factors in value. We compared 26 models for this guide before settling on these ten.
Brands can't pay to be included or to move up. We last checked these picks in October 2026.
